Membranes - The Trend in Water Purification

RSCC

Water scarcity is an abstract concept to many and a stark reality for others. It is the result of myriad environmental, political, economic, and social forces.

Every year competition for a clean, copious supply of water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and sustaining life intensifies with expanding population. Reclaiming water and upgrading unusable water to potable level is a necessity of the day.

While nearly 70 percent of the world is covered by water, only 2.5 percent of it is fresh. The rest is saline and ocean-based. Even then, just 1 percent of our freshwater is easily accessible, with much of it trapped in glaciers and snowfields. In essence, only 0.007 percent of the planet's water is available to fuel and feed its 6.8 billion people.

Dr. Amit Bhattacharya, Principal Scientist of the CSIR-Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute will explain the technology of tailor made water purification using indigenous membranes at our channel RSCPCalicut.Virtual on 10.10.20 at 3: 30 PM.

Membrane Technology provides materials of unprecedented properties, which can be used to clean water. Dr. Bhattacharya would present how from seawater to subsoil high TDS water can be used as inlet feed and potable water meeting WHO standards can be supplied to the community up to a high rate of 5000 LPH.
